Meet Dr. Jason Itri

Dr. Itri trained as a diagnostic radiologist at one of the premier training programs and hospital systems in the country, the University of Pennsylvania Health System (now Penn Medicine). He continued at Penn for fellowship training in abdominal imaging. After fellowship, he spent 8 years in major academic centers while holding several leadership positions, including the Director of Quality at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Vice Chair of Operations at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Director of Peer Review and Physician Performance at the University of Virginia Health System, and Vice Chair of Quality at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. The most recent position he held was Director of Quality and Associate Medical Director for Nines Radiology.

Dr. Itri has also held leadership roles with national organizations, including Chair of the General Radiology Information Database and Vice Chair of the Technical Expert Panel for the American College of Radiology. In addition to advocating for improving quality and safety in healthcare, he also has interests in peer review, diagnostic errors, quality/performance measurement, communication, and leadership development. 

Dr. Itri has received several awards for his work involving quality, including the Roger A. Bauman Award from the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine, E. Stephen Amis Quality and Safety Fellowship from the American College of Radiology, and the Patient Safety Advocate Award from the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.

Dr. Itri received the Teacher of the Year award at the University of Virginia in radiology as an educator. He has served on several ACGME committees, including the Residency Review Committee, Milestones Committee, and Clinical Learning Environmental Review Committee, where he helped craft, the Milestones used to train all diagnostic radiology residents in the country. Dr. Itri also received the David C. Leach Award from the ACGME for outstanding contributions to Graduate Medical Education.

Over the past 5 years, Dr. Itri has used his training, education, and experience to serve as an effective forensic expert for medical malpractice cases involving imaging. He has been retained in over 40 medical expert witness cases with 10 depositions and 3 trial/panel hearings to date.
